Bidding was impressively strong at the recent auction of Joe’s Garage – The MacPherson collection in sunny Tustin, California on June 14. Several cars surpassed the $450,000 mark including $660,000 for a stunning 1954 Chrisman Bonneville Coupe, $528,000 for an incredible 1966 All American Racers Gurney Eagle Indy Car and $ 495,000 for a fabulous 1960 Watson Indy Roadster. The star attraction of the sale was one of the most important Miller racing cars in existence – a magnificently restored, Pebble-Beach winning 1923 Miller 122, driven by such racing greats as Eddie Hearne, Ira Vail, Earl Cooper and Bill Albertson. The car spurred a frenzy of bidding on the auction block and was eventually won with a final bid of $1,850,000.

Universally acclaimed as the fastest European production car on the road during its prime, the Mercedes-Benz 500K Corsica Roadster was also an excellent driving companion. At full throttle, these luxurious cars were capable of 100 miles per hour, one of very few models of its era this fast, and even fewer models achieved this level of performance with such luxury and comfort. This exquisite marque is just one of the many incredible vintage autos being presented at our Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook this summer. Click here to view this sale’s feature cars.
