Ask the Expert An ongoing series with the knowledgeable and experienced staff at RM
How do I go about getting my car into an auction? What steps are necessary to get my car considered for auction?
Jonathan Hooker, RM Car Specialist:
We ask interested clients to forward good photographs of the car clearly showing all angles, as well as the interior, engine bay and undercarriage (if possible). This will help us establish the condition of the car. Also include a written description of the car that includes the history, previous owners, restoration work (how long ago, by whom), awards, etc. - essentially any information that can assist in establishing the provenance of the car. If you intend to offer the automobile with a reserve (meaning, the bidding must reach that amount before it sells), we ask that you include the suggested reserve value with the information you provide us. Once we have all of this information, we can determine if the car is an appropriate entry to one of our auctions and can then assign it to a sale.
