MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

COUNTDOWN TO ARIZONA

Final preparations are being made for this month’s Automobiles of Arizona event, January 21st – 22nd in Phoenix, Arizona. Extended to two days with the addition of the exclusive The British Are Coming evening auction, this year’s offering will present over 90 years of automotive history with some 170 motor cars set to cross the block across the two days.

Leading the charge for The British Are Coming event on January 21st is a matched pair of Aston Martin DB Mark IIIs, one Drop Head Coupe and one Saloon. Resplendent in their Aston Martin Elusive Blue and magnificently restored to the highest standards, both are proven concours winners, rarely achieving anything less than First and Second in class when shown together at various California events. Also set to cross the block during the Thursday evening event is a stunning 1963 Aston Martin DB4 GT, one of only six standard bodied DB4 GT’s built to factory lightweight specification and the last dispatched from Aston Martin’s Newport Pagnell Works.

CURTAIN TO RISE ON DAUER COLLECTION IN ARIZONA

Building on RM’s reputation as specialists for the auction of private and estate collections, RM is delighted to present a range of select examples from the distinguished private collection of Dr. Edward and Joanne Dauer at its upcoming Automobiles of Arizona event, January 21st – 22nd.

Active participants in the collector car hobby since 1973, the Dauers have amassed an impressive collection of automobiles from America’s automakers over the past three decades. With their own restoration facility in Southern California and a private museum in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Edward and Joanne have been both prolific and long-time car enthusiasts. In fact, their first date was in a 1941 Cadillac Four-Door Sedan undergoing restoration – and still in primer! Nowadays, they are well-known collectors on the national car show circuit where they regularly exhibit their cars, most of which are examples they remember fondly from their youth. Their efforts have been rewarded with numerous first place awards and honors at car shows across the continent.

RM is delighted to present 12 magnificent examples – each presented in outstanding condition - from their prized collection at its upcoming Arizona event. Amongst the long list of highlights is this rare 1959 DeSoto Adventurer Convertible Coupe (pictured). One of 97 built, this super luxurious automobile exhibits a fresh concours-level restoration and is an AACA Junior and Senior First Prize winner. GAVEL TO LIFT ON RARE PONTIAC BANSHEE COUPE

In addition to a magnificent roster of historic sports, racing & classic automobiles, RM’s Amelia Island auction, March 13th, will shine the spotlight on an important General Motors Concept Car, the rare 1964 Pontiac Banshee Coupe, XP833. Designed by John DeLorean to compete head-on with the Ford Mustang, the Pontiac Banshee’s trendsetting styling influenced several future GM products, including the Firebird, before its development was halted by executives who viewed it as a serious threat to the success of the Corvette. Only two were built, both drivable prototypes, a roadster and this stunning coupe, which has less than 1,500 miles from new.

Other notable early entries for RM’s Amelia Island sale include: a rare 1958 Tojeiro Jaguar Sports Racing Car, the third of just four built; a correctly restored 1963 Watson-Offy “Leader Card 500 Indy Roadster,” driven by Chuck Stevenson, Bobby Grim, Arnie Knepper, Greg Weld and Don Branson during the 1963 – 1966 USAC seasons; and a Platinum award-winning 1966 Ferrari 330 GTS to be offered without reserve.

DIARY DATE – COLLECTOR CARS OF FORT LAUDERDALE

RM will proudly round out an exciting month of auction action in Florida, March 26th – 28th, with the return of its annual Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale event. Regarded as South Florida’s premier collector car event, the annual three-day sale will offer a full range of American and European collector cars from desirable classics to exotic sports cars and Detroit muscle. Amongst notable early entries for the 2010 event are: an outstanding, well-documented 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible, fresh from an extensive, concours quality restoration; the one-of-a-kind Corvette Coupe Ozzie Olson GM Styling Car, custom built by Bill Mitchell for industrialist Ozzie Olson and formerly part of the renowned Bob McDorman Collection; and a handsome 1931 Cadillac V12 Convertible Coupe.

'SPRINZEL' SPRITE TO BENEFIT AMELIA ISLAND CONCOURS FOUNDATION

When the gavel begins falling at RM's 12th Automobiles of Amelia Island auction, one car will have extra special meaning to the Amelia Island Concours - a 1961 Austin-Healey "Sprinzel" Sebring Sprite Coupe.  Donated to the Concours' Foundation by long-time supporter and collector Peter McLaughlin, net proceeds, including the auction house's sales commissions, from the car's sale will go to benefit the Foundation.  Nimble, light and quick, this particular example was rallied extensively in Europe, and Sir Stirling Moss OBE drove it at the Monterrey Historic races.  Moss will be reunited with the car during the auction, Saturday, March 13, 2010.

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is one of the nation's most innovative vintage auto events featuring over 250 rare classics from seldom-seen private collection worldwide. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, March 12 - 14 2010, the show's foundation has donated nearly $1.6 million to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc. since 1996. RM Auctions is the official auction house of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. For further information, visit www.ameliaconcours.org or call +1 904-636-0027.
