The generational response to the Chrysler Airflow is typical of great designs that are ahead of their time. Initial public reception to the radical model was lukewarm. Despite having a small but loyal following in the collecting community, it is only 75 years later that these cars have gained the recognition they deserve. As a result of low production, survival figures are minuscule; in the case of the 1935 Chrysler Imperial Airflow Coupe, 200 units were produced and approximately six examples survive today.

This example was restored to concours standards in the early 1990s by a marque expert and past president of the Chrysler Club. The quality was such that it won an AACA First Senior badge and was chosen as the cover car for The Hemmings Book of Prewar Chryslers. This Airflow presents particularly well, as it was carefully owned and preserved in the noted collection of Charles Cawley. Since being purchased by the current owner in 2002, this Imperial Airflow was displayed at the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance where it was shown in the competitive Prewar class.

While in its current ownership, it has required only regular maintenance and the occasional drive. The exterior color of Putty Beige is complemented by a Brown mohair interior. Interesting features include the roll-out vee’d windshield, aircraft-inspired interior and vent windows that roll out automatically when the windows are rolled down. Options include fender skirts, front and rear bumpers and front bumper guards. The engine bay is correct in presentation and was restored just as nicely as the exterior. This 1935 Chrysler Imperial Airflow Coupe presents beautifully, and we are told it has excellent operating characteristics to match. It can be driven and shown with pride.
