Sold for $46,750

120 bhp, 292 cu. in. L-head V-12 engine, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf spring, live rear axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf spring and torque tube, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 138"

- Offered from an important private collection

- Rare V-12 Zephyr-derived limousine

- Industry’s first power front seat

The discontinuation of Lincoln’s big Model K for 1940 left a void in the luxury automaker’s catalog. Although the smaller Zephyr had been a big hit since its 1936 introduction, literally saving the company, and the Continental coupe and convertible lent prestige, there was no true luxury car in the lineup. A few Zephyrs were custom-bodied by Brunn as town cars, but the in-house flagship was destined to be a long-wheelbase Zephyr sold as the Custom.

Adding 13 inches to the wheelbase created enough room for an eight-passenger car. In place of the Zephyr sedan’s fastback, the Custom had a bustle trunk and interior space as large as the old Model K. Interior appointments included the industry’s first power front seat, power hydraulic window lifts and a folding center armrest in the rear. The Custom sedan was a three-window type with open passenger compartment. The Custom limousine was equipped with a division partition with power-operated window.

Acquired by the current owner in 2005, this Custom limousine had been completely restored to high standards. It is painted in the original Spode Green color and has a tan whipcord interior, front and rear, and of course the power division window. The rear compartment has two jump seats, each with a corresponding foot rest, and there are three separate hot-water heaters, providing both passenger and chauffeur comfort.

The car is powered by the Lincoln-Zephyr 292-cubic inch V-12, with polished aluminum cylinder heads and intake manifold. Lincoln built just 295 Custom limousines for 1941. This car is one of a select few.

As part of a large private collection, this car has been treated to climate-controlled storage but has seen little exercise in recent years and will require thorough professional inspection before being driven.
