In mid-1961, Oldsmobile introduced the Starfire, a high style, high performance luxury car that recaptured Oldsmobile’s rich performance heritage. Aimed squarely at the personal luxury/sport car market dominated by the Ford Thunderbird, the Starfire was built on a 123-inch wheelbase shared with the Eighty-Eight line and offered a host of distinctive features. The Starfire returned for 1962 to include a hardtop variant. Its success spawned a host of similar GM offerings including the Pontiac Grand Prix, the Buick Riviera and later Oldsmobile’s own Toronado.

Priced around $4,000, the Starfire Hardtop Coupe has a multitude of standard equipment including all the features of the Super Eighty-Eight as well as striking and attractive brushed aluminum side panels, a sporty cockpit featuring bucket seats, leather upholstery, floor console and power-operated front seats. Befitting its flagship status, the Starfire was powered by a 394 cubic inch V-8 engine with 345 brake horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, courtesy of a Rochester four-barrel carburetor, 10.5:1 compression, a revised camshaft profile, an efficient combustion chamber design and a free-flowing dual exhaust system.

Offered here is a stunning Chariot Red Starfire Hardtop Coupe. It features a Silver convertible-style roofline over a Silver and Gray interior. It has been restored to original specification and to national show-quality standards, with all correct finishes and proper attention paid to every nut and bolt, including its finely detailed chassis and engine bay. Along with its long list of standard features, this Starfire includes 26 factory options, bringing its price, as sold new, up significantly to $5,400 – a princely sum in 1962. Complete with Four Seasons Air Conditioning, all power equipment including seats and electric 'ventipanes,' factory tinted glass, console tachometer, reverb rear speaker and much more, this ’62 Starfire Hardtop needs nothing to show or to enjoy on the road. Included also is the original “Owner Protection Plan” package, still sealed, which includes the ‘Protect-O-Plate’ as well as a factory service manual.
