Cadillac rolled out a V-12 for the 1931 model year nine months after the introduction of its legendary V-16. The V-12 was essentially a “sixteen” with four fewer cylinders; it delivered 135 brake horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque in its original form and was installed on what was essentially a Cadillac V-8 platform, resulting in a well-balanced automobile with good handling. It became famous as a good performer and was available through 1937 with many of the same luxurious, hand-built Fisher and Fleetwood body styles as the V-16.

The Fisher-bodied Seven-Passenger Imperial Sedan offered here is documented by a copy of its original build sheet, which is on file. It was originally delivered through the Martin Cadillac-Oldsmobile Company, of Atlanta, Georgia, equipped with the optional features of dual side-mounted spares with covers and mirrors, a Goddess radiator mascot (since replaced with its present charming stork), and a “handy kit.”

The present owner, a well-known private collector, acquired the car when the Browning Collection dispersed in 2000. It has been professionally maintained within his stable and driven on a regular basis ever since. Its restoration has mellowed nicely but still presents well, with a good shine to the paint and chrome and a lightly broken-in interior, with black leather for the driver’s seat and broadcloth to the rear. Much of the interior trim, including the dashboard instruments and the steering wheel finishes, appears to be original. The body still carries its original firewall tag, and indeed, many of the finishes on the engine and drivetrain appear original.

An ideal choice for CCCA CARavans or other touring events, this is a handsome and comfortable Cadillac benefiting from long-term ownership by well-known enthusiasts.
